Canakkale Clock Tower

The Historical Clock Tower is located at the hearth of Canakkale which is adjust to the Anzac Hotel. It was built in 1897 by an Italian, Emili Vitali - tradesman and honorary consul of the time. There is a clock on each of the four sides of the tower, which was built from the local Ayvalık stone. The square shaped tower narrows slightly as it rises. The public fountain beneath was built in 1889 by a wealthy Jewish resident of the town called Halyo. The Clock tower now acts as one of the symbols of Canakkale .
Vitalis who died in Nice, France, wanted a water system and a clock tower to be built in Canakkale with his wealth amounting to 10,000 French goldpieces.
